Calipari Finds Kentucky's Next Big Star

The time has finally come. Shaedon Sharpe is the first #1 overall high school recruit to commit to Kentucky since Anthony Davis, the former NCAA Player of the Year as a freshman and an Olympic, NCAA, and NBA champion. Davis committed to Kentucky over 10 years ago and is widely seen as the greatest Kentucky player to ever do it. Will Shaedon be able to match Anthony Davis’s near-perfect resume? Not expected. But can he? It’s certainly possible.

The 6-5 shooting guard out of Glendale, Arizona is one of the most athletic players I’ve ever seen out of high school. His scoring abilities paired up with Skyy Clark’s incredible playmaking and shot-creating is sure to be one of the best backcourts to ever enter Rupp Arena. Not only is Sharpe a strong and explosive guard, but he is also a great catch-and-shoot guy with a near-flawless mid-range jumper. He also has the rare ability to get low and keep defenders on his hip while also being capable of elevating over defenders and finishing at the rim.     The thing I like most about Sharpe is how he lets the game come to him. The Canadian superstar seems to play with poise and is never forced to get a shot off or be sped up. It will be very entertaining to watch him catch lobs and run the floor since Shaedon thrives in transition.     However this 2022 recruiting class is already stacked with the likes of Skyy Clark and Shaedon Sharpe, Calipari is far from done. On October 15th, 5-star small forward Chris Livingston is set to make his decision. The buzz has quickly shifted from Memphis to Kentucky as his likely destination. On November 7th, 5-star Point Guard Carson Wallace is set to make his decision and Kentucky is also seen as his most likely choice. The number 2 player in the class Dereck Lively ii has no commitment date set yet, but with the addition of Shaedon, I expect the crystal ball predictions for Kentucky to come rolling in soon enough.

After a very, very rough past year, Kentucky fans have a lot to look forward to. Not only is the 2022 recruiting class looking to be one of the best of all time, but this season we’re loaded with promising experience and a shot to make a run in March.
